NGC NA Women’s Wing Farewell To Mrs. Yumkella

Mrs Philomena Yumkella or Aunty Philo as she was fondly known, left us very peacefully, last month a few short months after she fell ill. She was a Phenomenal woman. Philo and Kandeh were leaving Njala University when I was entering as a freshman. Together, they made lasting friendships at Njala like one that I know with Mr and Mrs Rudolph Jackson. Even though I knew them for that long, and the Yumkellas knew my Nicol family way before that, my relationship with them got personal with the introduction of the National Grand Coalition, the NGC. When I became a woman associated with the NGC, I started off as a KKY lady standing up for truth, justice and equality while exhibiting sincerity of purpose. By the time I became Women's Leader and struggled through a few bumps, I was reintroduced to a mentor and adviser who transformed me and all the women of the NGC into  Phelominal Phenominal women. A phelominal woman is one of few words but a lot of action, one who listens and offers opinions only when absolutely necessary, one who considers others before self, one who is kind and true, one who exhibits faith, hope, charity and above all love. On behalf of all the Phelominal Phenominal women of the NGC Globally and North America including Canada particularly, I extend our heartfelt thanks to you Dr K.K Yumkella, Binta and the entire Yumkella and Nicholas families for allowing us to share Aunty Philo with you. We pray she continues to look down upon you from her place among the angels and that light perpetual continues to shine on her. May her soul and all the souls of the faithfully departed NGC members through the mercy of God, rest in perfect peace.
