Dr. John Idris Lahai Must Understand What Plagiarism Is.
Over the last 48 hours, Dr. John Idriss Lahai has gone haywire over what he alleged as Hon. Yumkella plagiarizing his work or findings in the ongoing revelation of fake degree holders in the country.
Dr. John Idriss Lahai has become popular among social media followers after he shockingly began unfolding and exposing institutions awarding fake degrees in the country, and top government and civil servants holding fake degrees, masters, PhDs and Honorary PhD in Sierra Leone. Dr. John Idriss Lahai has ultimately become the whistleblower on the fake degree saga in the country. He has earned the admiration of many and has been widely appreciated and commended for helping in cleaning our workforce from fake degree holders, thereby trying to restore sanity in the education system.
Due to his credibility, educational prowess and outstanding leadership qualities, Hon. Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella was unanimously and overwhelmingly selected by MPs from the aile to be the Chairman of the newly set up Special-Select Committee on Certificate Audits in Parliament. This Committee, chaired by Hon. Yumkella was charged with the responsibility to conduct certificates and degree verification in Sierra Leone’s workforce (public and civil services) through other committees in the well of Parliament.
On Wednesday, 15th June, 2022, updating the House of Parliament, Hon. KKY highlighted several achievements his Committee has accomplished since its inception. In his address, Hon. Yumkella mentioned that, “someone sent me another invitation of a University in Njalu Road in Bo, that is also offering fake honorary PhD to people. I Immediately sent it to TEC, and within 3 hours, TEC replied that, this school is only supposed to give Certificates and Diplomas, but now, they are offering fake PhDs. Since this Committee was formed, we have been getting a lot of information.” This is exactly what Hon. KKY said that has irritated Dr. John Idriss Lahai calling it plagiarism of his findings.
Dr. John Idriss Lahai must understand that, someone getting information from him (Dr. Lahai) and that person decided to forward such information to Hon. KKY does not mean Dr. Lahai must be credited by Hon. KKY for that. One of the followers of Dr. Idriss Lahai has this to say on his Facebook page "take for example, I forward your findings you are posting on Facebook to KKY, do you think he should credit you for it? NO! He got it from me and not you. So please bro, don't say he plagiarized your work when you did not send it to him officially," the follower said to Dr. John Idriss Lahai prompting Dr. Lahai to remove the individual from his Facebook page and deleting the comment itself.
It is clear that, Dr. Yumkella mentioned and exposed a University that is offering fake PhDs after he had gotten that information from someone else, rather than Dr. Lahai. It simply doesn't mean Hon. KKY should credit Dr. Lahai for that because he (Dr. Lahai) had also exposed same). Hon. Dr. Yumkella did not in any way, plagiarized the work of Dr. John Idriss Lahai.
Dr. John Idriss Lahai must eat the humble pie now and humbly apologize to Hon. Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, as there is no case of his work been plagiarized by Hon. KKY.
In one of their notices to the public after its formation, the Special-Select Committee on Certificate Audits in Parliament on 25th May 2022 said "There are plans to interview Dr. Lahai and other whistle blowers." This clearly demonstrated that, Hon. KKY and the Committee recognized the good work of Dr. Lahai and are ready to work with him in this crusade. But according to Dr. Lahai, even when the olive branch had been extended to him in order to push this fight forward, but Dr. Lahai blatantly and openly decline to work with the Committee or Parliament, because of reasons best known to him. There has been many calls by citizens for Dr. Lahai to work with the Committee and Parliament in this fight, but he has allowed his ego to get the best of him.
Let it be noted that, this medium is not in any way discrediting or discarding the work of Dr. John Idriss Lahai. We commend him highly and encourage him to further his work delligently and genuinely without malice.

This is very important, other people can't be burning the midnight studying and other people paying for fake degrees, this is unacceptable. Continue to unearth them please. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteDr. Lahai has the brain of an educated intellectual but the mind of a whimpering child. Why should “acknowledging” you for a piece of public information that is readily (and not exclusively) available become an issue to cloud the main subject of concern? Are we talking about “John Lahai and the sheer size of his ego”, or we are talking about an important national crusade that should involve EVERYONE? JL has totally got it wrong, if he thinks that he should be the subject of this very important issue.
